Nestled in the heart of Iran, Damavand Mout is located in north of Iran at the central part of the Alborz Mountain range located on the south of the Caspian Sea. Damavand is the symbol of stability in the Iranian culture and enjoys a good reputation in Persian literature and mythology.
In Iranian mythology, there is a legend that says a three-headed dragon called Aži Dahāka resides on the mountain and is destined to remain there until the end of time.
At 5610 meters, Damavand Mountain is the highest mountain of Iran and Middle East; it is 19th tallest peak of the world and the highest volcanic peak of Asia which is one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the world.
The mountain was formed in the 4th geological period (Holocene Period); currently its volcanic activity is limited to sulfur gases sublimation. Just to look at Damavand Mount from a distance is impressive but to actually trek it is a whole other experience entirely. You’ll trek over the clouds, watch sunsets and really feel like you’re are on the top of Iran. Mount Damavand is situated in the Lar National Park and there you’ll find exceptional native flora and fauna. Then, from the summit, you’ll be treated to an amazing view of the Lar Valley. There is a frozen and unique waterfall in the south part of Damavand which never melts. The most important eastern glaciers of Alborz are located on the peak of Damavand.
