STORY

KUMUS DEPE

The region in which Kumus Depe emerged from the Parthian period until recently has provided part of the needs of the European countries; And according to some historical texts, the Gorgan River entered the Caspian Sea through Kumus Depe. Kamish Depe was at the peak of Abscon Island’s prosperity, the end of the dirt road and the beginning of the Silk Road waterway in the Asian part. Recently, the abysses (large wooden sailing ships) of Kumus Depe have been following the Absconian route by trading goods with the outside world, and its people have traded with the coastal cities in the north of the country.
Kumus Depe is one of the cities of Golestan province, which is located on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. The native name of this city, Kumus Depe, means “silver hill” in the local language. There are several narratives as to why this area was named Silver Hill. It is said that many silver objects and vessels were found in this area in the middle of Qajar period. But in another narration, it refers to the salt marsh of the hill when the sea water was higher. With the sunshine and the reflection of the sun and the moon, this hill shines like silver from a distance. Kumus Depe is also famous for its historic apartment city. The houses in Gomish Tappeh are strange. There are 150-year-old apartments in this city where its inhabitants still live, and some of them have used Gorgan wall bricks to build their houses. In addition to historic apartments, Kumus Depe has other attractions that include Abscon Island, A natural volcano that mud with gas, and Gomishan International Wetland used to come out of its mouth instead of molten materials.
